I currently run 3 computers as 1 symbiotic/networked unit in my day to day work. A Windows box for a declining number of desktop tasks; Ubuntu Linux for server access, an increasing number of Desktop tasks, and an increasing number of server tasks; and a Mac Mini for graphics work and digital image capture.

Detailed Breakdown

A Port Authority2 KVM switch running 2 of the boxes and:

  • Keyboard – Adesso PCK-308B ( (my old) Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro and beer do not mix!)
  • Monitor – Acer AL1914
  • Mouse – Logitech TrackMan WheelMouse

The 3 boxes themselves:

  1. Dell XPS700 – Ubuntu Linux; Intel Core2Duo; 2GB RAM
  2. Mac Mini – OS X Version 10.4.8; 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4; 512 MBDDR SDRAM
  3. Dell Dimension 4300 – Windows 2000; Intel Pentium4 1.4 Ghz; 261 MB RAM

Not shown: old systemax pentium 3 777mhz – Slackware Linux – 256 MB RAM
