Earlier work:

Access 2000 / Visual Basic 6.0

(Microsoft Windows Common Control 6.0 Library, Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library, Microsoft Access 9.0 Object Library, Visual Basic for Applications)

  • Upgraded an Access 97 eye injury reporting system application to Access 2000. Refit and expanded application to clinical specifications. Rewrote parts of the Visual Basic code to use updated DAO 3.6 and Access 9.0 libraries. Wrote custom Visual Basic functions and procedures for application. Enhanced back-end database by adding 3 additional primary data tables.
  • Developed a Vision and Optical Readiness demonstration database application. Back-end relational database utilizes 4 primary data tables and 5 subsidiary application tables. Tables are designed according to the military's ICDB database specifications. Data is entered on one complex data entry form.
  • Developed a small clinical assessment tool to specification. User enters demographic and clinical information into a form. The form utilizes 20 combo boxes and 5 text boxes to capture demographic and clinical information. Once necessary information has been entered, user can press a command button to display a recommended clinical management plan. The Management Plan algorithm is written in Visual Basic code bound to the form.
  • Wrote a Visual Basic procedure to export generic database table definitions (table name, field name, field type, field size) to a text file in HTML format.
  • Developed forms using Visual Basic ActiveX controls:
    • Used ListViewCtrl to design a search utility
    • Used TreeCtrl and ImageListCtrl in a treeview to allow user to navigate forms and reports.

Access 97/Visual Basic for Applications

(Microsoft DAO 3.5 Object Library, Microsoft Access 8.0 Object Library, Visual Basic for Applications)

  • Ported a Macintosh Now Contact database to Win32 environment. Developed an Access 97 contact database application and imported the data. Wrote Visual Basic script to import text file into data tables, parse data, and remove Macintosh control characters. Designed a 6 table relational database as a back-end to the application. Also created an Access 2000 version of application.

Access 97 / Visual Basic for Applications

(Microsoft DAO 3.5 Object Library, Microsoft Access 8.0 Object Library, Visual Basic for Applications, custom libraries)

    • Maintenance and customization of a purchasing application for industrial automation company. Added and customized new forms and reports using Visual Basic. Modified existing forms to user specification. Advised on database structure and upgrade considerations.
    • Designed and developed a marketing data warehouse to incorporate data from 5 separate corporate business units into a consolidated financial database. Designed and documented a 20 table database to store sales and marketing information. Standardized data transfer specifications across 5 different database systems. Designed a 3-part Access mdb database schema to handle the data. Wrote Visual Basic procedures and functions to manipulate data. Created a separate general code Visual Basic library to reference in the separate Access applications to facilitate standardization and maintenance of code. Designed customized financial reports in Access and Visual Basic.

    SQL Server 2000 / Transact-SQL / Crystal Reports 8.5

    • Developed 50 complex reports for a security access control application at a software development company. The reports used subreports, customized SQL database queries, and Crystal script. Required learning database structure of a complex SQL Server database application to extract the appropriate data using SQL. Reports were tested in Crystal via ODBC to SQL Server. The front-end application was built in Visual Basic. Finalized reports were loaded into a report viewer built in Visual Basic.
    • Created SQL Server Transact-SQL stored procedures and SQL views to manipulate the report data. These stored procedures and views were deployed on the SQL Server back-end of application.
    • Performed SQL Server database backup and restore.
    • Wrote a Crystal script to decode IP addresses encoded with Intel Big Endian algorithm. Script converts a stored decimal number to 32-bit binary string, then to 8-bit binary representation of each part of IP address, to display decoded IP address.

Access 2.0 / Visual Basic for Applications

Developed a felt design database application in VBA for a felt production facility in the paper industry. Created forms and reports, including a complex data entry form to design industrial felts to exact specifications. Primary data entry form had 90 controls on it. Wrote Complex VBA script behind this form to handle 15 different varieties of felts. Dimensions and other data are stored in the database. Application incorporates sales and design information into one double-sided printed page that is then sent to the factory floor to be used for the manufacture of industrial felts.
Redesigned the database back-end by normalizing data in one table to 2 parent-child tables and adding 2 other child tables. Redesigned data entry forms and reports accordingly.
